It is being reported that voters in Nashville, Tennessee, rejected a proposed amendment that would have forced all government businesses to be done only in English and no other language. Nashville is seeing a surge in immigrant population in recent times, so there lays a suspicion on ultimate principle behind this pathetic amendment.

I say pathetic, because I cannot conceive any possible greater use of having all government business done in English. Of course, I never done any government business in any language other than English, so there could be a criticism that because this amendment does not affect me (I also do not live in the great city of Nashville – Many of my peers love the city) that I should not by principle get involved or have any problems with this failed amendment.

But such criticism is as shallow as not having a drop of other consideration. Of course, I am not too concerned about the effect of the law that has on me, but I have a problem behind the principle motivation in passing the amendment.

With a surge of immigrants I doubt that the amendment was put forth to facilitate these new Nashville folks; in fact, if we do a little meditation and go into the great rational minds of the amendment supporters, we cannot conceive but to conclude that their hatred of the immigrants drove their will to pass the English only amendment.

The effect of the amendment would make it nearly impossible for any non-native English citizen to conduct any government business. Now the supporters will exercise the ultimate immortal sin of lying by giving various reasons for the benefit of the amendment, including lowering cost for government paper work due to the standardized language. But it is their hatred and fear of the immigrant population that this pathetic amendment has surfaced into the public spot light.

It should be clear that my objection to the amendment in this essay is only the insincerity or more clearly the attempted lie of the supporters who will admit everything but the true principle reason why they support this amendment. I find lying immoral on the grounds of my faith (Ten Commandments) and philosophy (Categorical Imperative).
