New York State

I demand the immediate resignation of New York State Governor Spitzer.

New York State

I liked Governor Spitzer. As a citizen of New York, I admired his strength and courage in taking down corruption in Wall Street when he was Attorney General of New York. He was compassionate yet resolute. He seems to be a very clean politician with a bright future head. Unfortunately, his participation of the prostitution ring immediately destroyed his political future, and I am waiting for his immediate resignation, so that the State of New York can finally move on to more critical matters.

So far, Governor Spitzer did not make any direct statements for his involvement in his crime. He did apologize to his family and public for participating in an act that goes against his moral perception, but he has so far refused to confirm his participation in the prostitute ring. I was devastated when I heard the news, and I immediately felt very sorry for Spitzer’s family. The Governor has a wife and three children, and I cannot imagine the shock and dismay that they are going through. As a citizen, I am shocked and somewhat angry with the Governor’s actions. He tainted the office of Governor and the State of New York. From the press conference, Spitzer seems to be trying to explore options that would allow him to keep his job as he so far refused to step down from his job. Although this matter is somewhat personal, I still cannot ignore the fact that my Governor was involved in an activity that I find it morally questionable. If there are any reasons for the Governor to keep his job, then it has to be political self-preservation and not for the sake of New York.

Many others and I are patiently waiting for the Governor’s immediate resignation. I do not wish for the Governor to be forcibly removed by legislative efforts by the Republican majority in Albany or have the media focus on his trial as he continue his duties through the end of his term. His presence as an elected official is a disgrace, and I want to move on to other issues. I know that the Republicans will try to spin the issue for their own political advantage, but I would also ask them to keep it civil and not let the incident take over other matters.
