I am not any particular airline fan (Although I did enjoy Air France’s excellent service during my trip to Europe), but the news that Delta exited its bankruptcy protection was somehow heart warming. Was it that I had a sudden enthusiastic support for the second largest carrier in the U.S.? Perhaps. But the event showed that there is still hope for giant companies to emerge out of a whirling cloud of financial storm.

Delta had to slash jobs and painfully restructure the company while convincing its investors to not to give in on United Airlines’ hostile takeover. After watching the CEO of Delta announce that the company is out of bankruptcy protection and hearing all the screams and joys of the company’s employees afterwards, I find that it takes tremendous amount of perseverance and spirit to tackle the toughest challenges and move towards progress. I cannot even begin to imagine the ordeal of the financial accountants, who had to make tough and continuous decisions to save the sinking company.

I truly hope that Northwest will be out of its bankruptcy problems as planned, and I think the airline industry is back to the high skies. Now how about something similar with our automobile industry….
