Many liberals and Democrats are worried that their counterparts are dominating over political power in Capital Hill. It is fair that all the right-wing conservatives’ action in the past few months might bring fright to the Democrats. From threatening Federal Judges (Terri Schavio’s case) to ending the filibuster right (Judicial Nominees), the strong political force of the right should not be taken likely. However, most of the population should realize that these drastic events do not mean the right-wing party is complacent on their position, actually far from it. They might look very complacent with their dominant position in politics, but they are actually very desperate to keep their superior position alive. The radical moves by the Republicans suggests that they view their majority status position as delicate, and the Republicans are undoing the liberal agenda set during this century as quickly as possible before the quick Democrat’s take over in Capital Hill. History has told them that the liberals always had a dominant power over history, because the liberals introduced drastic and radical changes that lasted many decades. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Social Security Plan is still in affect today, and the Warren’s Supreme Court decision can be felt with our desegregated society today. The conservative right wing over the century concentrated on traditionalist ideas, and attempted to move all the changes back with little success. That lead to little permanent conservative mark in history, and the right wing agendas lived shortly during their dominance in government. After looking back in history, the conservatives realized that in order to achieve long lasting agendas they must push as many of their goals into action during their dominance in the government. The more agendas they pass during their dominance, it becomes harder for the liberals to undo the right-wing doings, and it leaves little room for the left to push their own plans into action when they become dominant. It is a brilliant tactics of the right to continue hammering their agenda in Capital Hill, but their radical actions have consequences. The harder and faster they try to push their goals into reality, the harder and tougher the liberal opposition groups will block their dream from becoming a reality. The Democrats are using filibusters to stop President Bush’s judicial nominees from coming to a vote in the Republican controlled Senate. Mass protests against the War on Iraq showed a strong opposition force against President Bush’s War agenda. If the Republicans continue their radical moves to push their own agenda one after the other, they will risk a strong opposition force during the election years, which might cost their control on Capital Hill.
